CAL too much for Lady Colonels

The Henderson County Lady Colonels faced off against the Christian Academy-Louisville Lady Centurions on the road at Valley High School in Louisville in the Republic Bank Louisville Invitational Tournament.

 

In the opening period, the Lady Centurions would outscore the Lady Colonels 21-17 heading into the second quarter. In the second period, the Lady Centurions outscored the Lady Colonels 17-10,  as the Lady Centurions would hold a 11 point lead over the Lady Colonels heading into halftime with the score 38-27.

 

To begin the second half, the Lady Centurions outscored the Lady Colonels 12-6, as the Lady Centurions would hold a 50-33 lead heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth and final period, the Lady Colonels outscored the Lady Centurions 22-15, as the Lady Colonels would suffer a 10 point loss against a top 15 ranked team in the state as the final score was 65-55. The Lady Colonels drop to (14-4) on the season while the Lady Centurions improve to (15-4). 

 

The leading scorer for the Lady Colonels was senior forward Jarie Thomas with 18 points and 6 rebounds while shooting 2 for 4 from the free throw line on the night. Senior guard Mallorie Veal scored 12 points while shooting 2 for 3 from the three point line while freshman forward Brooklyn Gibson contributed 11 points and 7 rebounds while shooting 5 for 6 from the free throw line. Senior guard Graci Risley tallied 6 points while sophomore guard Shalyn Sprinkles recorded 3 points. Sophomore guard Allyson Rideout added 3 points while freshman forward A’Tylia Green scored 2 points on the night.

 

As a team, the Lady Colonels shot 5 for 16 (31%) from the three point line and shot 10 for 14 (71%) from the free throw line while grabbing a total of 26 rebounds and committing 11 turnovers on the night. Also the Lady Colonels as a team recorded 15 assists, 2 blocks and 11 steals on the night.

 

The Lady Colonels will play one more game in the Louisville Invitational Tournament sometime on Saturday, January 28th, with the time and opponent still TBD.
