Lady Colonels pick up win in LIT over Butler

The Henderson County Lady Colonels faced off against the Butler Bearettes at Butler High School in Louisville in the Republic Bank Louisville Invitational Tournament.

 

In the opening period, the Lady Colonels would outscore the Bearettes 14-7 heading into the second quarter. In the second period, the Lady Colonels would outscore the Bearettes 16-7, as the Lady Colonels would hold a 16 point lead over the Bearettes heading into halftime with the score 30-14.

 

To begin the second half, the Lady Colonels outscored the Bearettes 12-6, as Lady Colonel senior guard Graci Risley and sophomore guard Shalyn Sprinkles combined for 11 points in the quarter and the Lady Colonels would have a 51-20 lead heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth and final period, the Bearettes would outscore the Lady Colonels 22-11, but the Lady Colonels would hold on to win by 20 points with the final score 62-42. The Lady Colonels improve to (15-4) on the season while the Bearettes drop to (4-11). 

 

The leading scorer for the Lady Colonels was senior guard Mallorie Veal with 15 points while shooting 5 for 8 from the three point line on the night. Senior guard Graci Risley scored 12 points while shooting 4 for 6 from the three point line while senior forward Jarie Thomas contributed 9 points and 8 rebounds. Freshman forward Brooklyn Gibson tallied 8 points and grabbed 5 rebounds while sophomore guard Shalyn Sprinkles added 8 points. Sophomore forward Anna Kemp recorded 4 points and 3 rebounds while freshman forward A’Tylia Green scored 2 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Freshman guard Addy Gish tallied 2 points and 3 rebounds while sophomore guard Jaci Risley added 2 points on the night.

As a team, the Lady Colonels shot 10 for 17 (59%) from the three point line and shot 2 for 3 (67%) from the free throw line while grabbing a total of 33 rebounds on the night.

 

The Lady Colonels next game will be tomorrow night, Monday January 30th, at home against the Muhlenberg County Lady Mustangs with the tip-off at 7:30 P.M.
