The Henderson County Colonels faced off against the McCracken County Mustangs on the road in Owensboro at the SportsCenter.
In the first period, the Colonels outscored the Mustangs 12-11, as Colonels senior guard Gerard Thomas and sophomore guard Cooper Davenport combined for 8 points in the quarter. In the second period, the Mustangs outscored the Colonels 11-7, as the Mustangs held a 3 point lead over the Colonels at halftime with the score 22-19.
To begin the second half, the Colonels would outscore the Mustangs 15-5, as senior guard Gerard Thomas scored 10 points alone in the quarter, as the Colonels would hold a 34-27 lead heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth and final quarter, the Colonels would outscore the Mustangs 13-12, as the Colonels would come away with the 8 point upset win over the Mustangs with the final score 47-39. The Colonels improve to (17-7) on the season while the Mustangs fall to (22-3).
The leading scorer for the Colonels was senior guard Gerard Thomas with 14 points and 7 rebounds on the night. Sophomore guard Lacon McKinney scored 11 points while sophomore guard Cooper Davenport tallied 10 points and 2 rebounds. Senior forward Jake Rideout contributed 4 points and 6 rebounds along with 3 assists and 1 huge block near the end of the game. Sophomore guard Dwaine Moss recorded 3 points while junior guard Alec Satterfield added 3 points and 5 assists along with 2 steals. To round out the scoring for the Colonels, sophomore forward Trajdon Davis tallied 2 points on the night.
As a team, the Colonels shot 4 for 10 (40%) from the three point line and 5 for 10 (50%) from the free throw line whilegrabbing 25 total rebounds and committing 13 turnovers on the night. Also the Colonels recorded 12 assists, 1 block, and 4 steals.
The Colonels next game will be Tuesday night, February 7th, on the road in the second game of a girl/boy doubleheader in Dixon against the Webster County Trojans with the tip-off around 7:30 P.M.
