The Henderson County Lady Colonels faced off against 6th District rival the Union County Bravettes at home at Colonel Gym.
In the opening period, the Lady Colonels would outscore the Bravettes 16-6, as Lady Colonel senior forward Jarie Thomas had 7 points and 3 rebounds in the quarter. In the second period, the Bravettes would outscore the Lady Colonels 20-18, as senior forward Jarie Thomas and senior guard Mallorie Veal combined for 11 points in the quarter as the Lady Colonels would have a 8 point lead over the Bravettes at halftime with the score 34-26.
To begin the second half, the Lady Colonels would outscore the Bravettes 17-15, as senior forward Jarie Thomas and senior guard Graci Risley combined for 13 points in the quarter and the Lady Colonels would have a 51-41 lead heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth and final period, the Lady Colonels would outscore the Bravettes 8-7, as the Lady Colonels would come away with a 11 point victory with the final score 59-48. The Lady Colonels improve to (19-4) on the season while the Bravettes drop to (16-8).
The Henderson County Lady Colonels win the 6th District Regular Season Title and will play for the 6th District Championship on Wednesday February 22nd at Webster County.
The leading scorer for the Lady Colonels was senior forward Jarie Thomas with a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds while shooting 6 for 7 from the free throw line on the night. Senior guard Mallorie Veal scored 12 points and had 3 rebounds while shooting 4 for 4 from the free throw line while senior guard Graci Risley contributed 11 points and 5 rebounds. Sophomore forward Anna Kemp tallied 5 points and 3 rebounds while sophomore guard Shalyn Sprinkles recorded 5 points. Senior guard Savannah Lacer added 2 points while freshman forward Brooklyn Gibson tallied 2 points on the night.
As a team, the Lady Colonels shot 5 for 18 (28%) from the three point line and shot 14 for 18 (78%) from the free throw line while grabbing a total of 27 rebounds and committing 10 turnovers on the night.
The Lady Colonels next game will be Monday night, February 13th, on the road in Owensboro against the Owensboro Catholic Lady Aces with the tip-off at 7:00 P.M.
