The Webster County Trojans faced off in a 6th District rivalry game against the Union County Braves at Dr. Doug Hines Gym and Gerald Tabor Court in Morganfield.

In the opening period, the Trojans outscored the Braves 16-13, as Trojan junior guard Evan Michalek and junior forward Deshawn Murphy combined for 11 points in the quarter. In the second period, the Braves outscored the Trojans 16-12, as Braves senior guard Izaiah Manual scored 8 points in the quarter and the Braves would have a slim 1 point lead at halftime with the score 29-28.

To begin the second half, the Trojans would outscore the Braves 16-15, as Trojans junior forward Deshawn Murphy would score 8 points in the quarter as the game would be all tied up at 44 heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth and final period, the Braves would outscore the Trojans 14-13, as in the final seconds Trojan junior forward Deshawn Murphy would attempt a three pointer but his shot would rim out as the Braves would come away with a 1 point stunning win with the final score 58-57. The Braves improve to (11-14) on the season while the Trojans fall to (14-11).

The leading scorer for the Braves was senior guard Kris Hughes with 20 points and 8 rebounds while also recording 2 assists and 2 steals on the night. Senior guard Izaiah Manuel scored 14 points and grabbed 5 rebounds while senior guard Moses Hancock contributed 12 points and 6 rebounds. Senior guard Kanye Pollard tallied 8 points while sophomore forward Cameron Miller added 4 points and 2 rebounds to round out the scoring for the Braves.

As a team, the Braves were 3 for 11 (27%) from the three point line and shot 3 for 8 (38%) from the free throw line while grabbing 30 total rebounds and committing 14 turnovers on the night.

The leading scorer for the Trojans was junior forward Deshawn Murphy with 26 points and 8 rebounds while also recording 3 assists, 1 block and 4 steals on the night. Junior guard  Evan Michalek scored 12 points and grabbed 3 rebounds while knocking down 2 three pointers while junior forward Jarvis Starks-Scott contributed 11 points and 7 rebounds while also recording 1 assist, 1 block and 1 steal. Sophomore guard Micah Austin tallied 4 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists. Freshman guard Trace Hardison recorded 2 points while senior guard Markus Austin added 2 points and 4 rebounds to round out the scoring for the Trojans.

As a team, the Trojans were 2 for 18 (11%) from the three point line and shot 3 for 7 (43%) from the free throw line while grabbing 34 total rebounds while committing 8 turnovers on the night.

The Braves next game is tonight Tuesday, February 14th, at home against the Caldwell County Tigers at 7:30 P.M. while the Trojans next game will be tonight Tuesday, February 14th, at home against the Marshall County Marshals at 7:30 P.M.
