Lady Colonels Smooth Passing Cruise to District Title

The Henderson County Lady Colonels faced off against the Webster County Lady Trojans in the 6th District Tournament Championship game at Trojan Gym in Dixon.

 

In the opening period, the Lady Colonels would outscore the Lady Trojans 16-9, as Lady Colonel senior forward Jarie Thomas and freshman forward Brooklyn Gibson combined for 10 points in the quarter. In the second period, the Lady Colonels would outscore the Lady Trojans 14-5, as senior forward Jarie Thomas scored 7 points in the quarter as the Lady Colonels would have a 16 point lead over the Lady Trojans at halftime with the score 30-14.

 

To begin the second half, the Lady Colonels would outscore the Lady Trojans 22-7, as senior guard Graci Risley scored 9 points in the quarter and the Lady Colonels would have a 52-21 lead heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth and final period, the Lady Trojans would outscore the Lady Colonels 15-9, but the Lady Colonels would come away with a 25 point win over the Lady Trojans winning the 6th District Tournament Championship with the final score 61-36. The Lady Colonels improve to (23-4) while the Lady Trojans fall to (10-20).

 

The leading scorer for the Lady Colonels was freshman forward Brooklyn Gibson with 17 points and 3 rebounds while shooting 3 for 4 from the free throw line and recording 2 assists and 2 steals on the night. Senior guard Graci Risley scored 13 points while shooting 3 for 4 from the three point line while senior forward Jarie Thomas contributed 13 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals while shooting 3 for 3 from the free throw line. Senior guard Mallorie Veal tallied 6 points and 2 assists while sophomore guard Shalyn Sprinkles recorded 4 points and 2 steals. Sophomore forward Anna Kemp and freshman guard Addy Gish added 2 points each. Freshman forward A’Tylia Green and sophomore guard Rashia Cansler scored 2 points each. Senior guard Savannah Lacer didn’t score but had 8 rebounds and 5 assists on the night.

As a team, the Lady Colonels shot 5 for 14 (36%) from the three point line and shot 6 for 9 (67%) from the free throw line while grabbing a total of 30 rebounds and committing 11 turnovers. The Lady Colonels also had 19 assists, 10 steals, and 2 blocks on the night.

 

The Lady Colonels next game will be either Monday night, February 27th, or Tuesday night, February 28th, in the 1st round of the 2nd Region Tournament with the opponent and time TBD. The tournament will be held at Union County High School in Morganfield. The girls 2nd Region Tournament Draw will be tomorrow morning at 9 A.M.
