The Henderson County Colonels faced off against the Webster County Trojans in the 6th District Tournament Championship game at Trojan Gym in Dixon.
In the first period, the Trojan outscored the Colonels 18-15, as Colonel senior forward Jake Rideout and sophomore guard Lacon McKinney combined for 12 points in the quarter. In the second period, the Colonels would outscore the Trojans 15-3, as junior guard Alec Satterfield scored 8 points in the quarter and the Colonels would be ahead by 9 points over the Trojans at halftime with the score 30-21.
To begin the second half, the Trojans would outscore the Colonels 14-9, as junior guard Alec Satterfield scored 7 points in the quarter and the Colonels would hold a 39-35 lead heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth and final quarter, the Colonels would outscore the Trojans 21-19, as senior guard Gerard Thomas scored 9 points in the quarter as the Colonels would come away with their 3rd straight District Tournament title as the Colonels would come away with a 6 point victory with the final score 60-54. The Colonels improve to (21-8) while the Trojans fall to (17-12).
The leading scorer for the Colonels was junior guard Alec Satterfield with 15 points and 4 rebounds while shooting 2 for 4 from the three point line along with 7 assists on the night. Senior forward Jake Rideout scored 11 points and grabbed 8 rebounds while shooting 3 for 4 from the free throw line while senior guard Gerard Thomas contributed a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds while shooting 3 for 4 from the free throw line. Sophomore forward Trajdon Davis tallied 7 points and grabbed 7 rebounds while sophomore guard Cooper Davenport recorded 7 points and 2 assists while shooting 4 for 4 from the free throw line. Sophomore guard Lacon McKinney added 6 points and 6 rebounds while sophomore guard Dwaine Moss scored 3 points on the night.
Trojans junior forward Deshawn Murphy recorded a double-double with 25 points and 12 rebounds while shooting 8 for 9 from the free throw line while recording 3 assists and 1 block on the night.
As a team, the Colonels shot 4 for 11 (36%) from the three point line and 12 for 17 (71%) from the free throw line while grabbing 42 total rebounds and committing 6 turnovers. The Colonels also recorded 13 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks on the night.
The Colonels next game will either be Wednesday night, March 1st, or Thursday night, March 2nd, in the 1st round of the 2nd Region Tournament with the opponent and time TBD. The tournament will be held at Madisonville-North Hopkins High School in Madisonville. The boys 2nd Region Tournament Draw will be tomorrow morning at 9 A.M.
