Three Henderson County Schools were briefly placed in lockdown on Friday afternoon.
Henderson County Schools Public Information Officer Megan Mortis said that the Henderson Police Department placed East Heights Elementary School, North Middle School, and Henderson County High School in lockdown at about 1 p.m. Friday. Mortis said this was due to a situation in a surrounding neighborhood not involving the school system.
Henderson Police Department Public Information Officer Lt. Stuart O’Nan said that a person “made a threat of violence to an establishment in Henderson.” Out of caution, the police put the schools on lockdown until they were able to locate the man.
O’Nan said that Owensboro law enforcement located the suspect.
The lockdown was lifted roughly 10 minutes after 1 p.m. and students resumed their classes.
