Henderson Senior Farmers Market Voucher program is back

Henderson Senior Farmers Market Voucher program is here again. Voucher cards are available to any senior, 60-plus years old, and have income level of 185 % of federal poverty level or lower. The Henderson County Cooperative Extension Service is the county facilitator for the Senior Farmers Market Voucher program.

Voucher cards can be picked up at the Education and Expo Center, located behind the Henderson County Cooperative Extension office starting Friday, June 9th between the hours of 9 a.m. and noon or until voucher cards are gone. Please bring state issued identification such as driver’s license or birth certificate for age verification. Limited number of vouchers are available; they will be issued on a first come, first serve basis; one voucher card per household.

Voucher cards can only be redeemed at the Henderson Farmers Market off Airline Road & Garden Mile at the fairgrounds. Their hours are Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday from 8 am to 1pm (or until vendors are sold out).

Funding for Kentucky’s program comes from federal and state resources. The Kentucky Department of Agriculture serves as the lead agency for Senior Farmers Market Voucher program. The low-income seniors receive $50 to purchase fresh, unprocessed, locally grown fruits, vegetables, and herbs at state-approved farmers’ markets.

Eligible food means fresh, nutritious, unprepared, locally grown fruits, vegetables, and herbs for human consumption. Eligible foods may not be processed or prepared beyond their natural state except for usual harvesting ad cleaning processes. Only fresh, unprocessed fruits, vegetables, and fresh-cut herbs may be provided under this program.

People can call the Henderson Cooperative Extension Office if they have questions at 270-826-8387.
