DIED SATURDAY, AUGUST 12, AT HOMEPLACE OF HENDERSON. MARIE WORKED AS A CASHIER YEARS AGO AT FOWLERS GROCERY STORE ON OUTER GREEN STREET. AFTER THEIR CLOSING SHE REMAINED IN THE SAME LOCATION AND WORKED FOR THE KWIK PIK STORE. YEARS LATER IT BECAME THE PANTRY AND SHE STAYED EMPLOYED THERE UNTIL 1984. SHE WAS A HOMEMAKER LATER IN LIFE. SHE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HER HUSBAND WILLIAM COLLINS AND 2 BROTHERS, ROBERT AND EDDIE SEATS.

BURIAL WILL FOLLOW AT ROSELAWN MEMORIAL GARDENS
FRIENDS AND FAMILY ARE INVITED TO MARIE’S LIFE CELEBRATION FROM 4PM-8PM ON TUESDAY, AUGUST 15, AND AGAIN ON WEDNESDAY FROM 9AM UNTIL SERVICE TIME AT FUNERAL HOME.

ELIZABETH ANN “LIBBY ANN” CLAY SMITH 84 OF HENDERSON
DIED FRIDAY, AUGUST 11TH, AT HER HOME. SHE GRADUATED FROM HENDERSON CITY HIGH SCHOOL IN 1957. SHE THEN ATTENDED KENTUCKY WESLEYAN COLLEGE AND GRADUATED WITH A BACHELOR OF ARTS IN ELEMENTARY EDUCATION. SHE TAUGHT AT SOUTH HEIGHTS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND THEN AT HEBBARDSVILLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL UNTIL HER RETIREMENT. LIBBY WAS ACTIVE IN THE HENDERSON LIONESS CLUB SERVING AS PRESIDENT AND RECEIVING LIONESS OF THE YEAR AWARD. SHE SERVED ON THE GOVERNOR’S FOSTER CARE REVIEW BOARD AND ON THE OHIO VALLEY ART LEAGUE BOARD, AND SHE VOLUNTEERED FOR HENDERSON AREA ARTS ALLIANCE IN ITS EARLY YEARS. LIBBY ALSO SERVED ON VARIOUS CHURCH COUNCILS AND COMMITTEES AND QUIETLY FUNDED MANY COMMUNITY CAUSES AS WELL AS STUDENTS’ COLLEGE TUITIONS THROUGH THE YEARS, ALWAYS ASKING THAT THE STUDENTS NOT REPAY HER, BUT PAY IT FORWARD. SHE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HER HUSBAND OF 49 YEARS, RONALD D. SMITH, AND HER BELOVED GRANDMOTHER, LUCY “MA” YOUNG.

SERVICES WILL BE AT 10 A.M. THURSDAY, AUGUST 17, 2023, AT FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH.
THE REVEREND CINDY GREEN AND THE REVEREND GARY A. CHAPMAN WILL OFFICIATE.
BURIAL WILL BE IN FERNWOOD CEMETERY.
FRIENDS AND FAMILY ARE INVTED TO THE VISITATION FROM 4 P.M. TO 7 P.M. ON WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 16, 2023, AT RUDY-ROWLAND FUNERAL HOME AND FROM 9 A.M. UNTIL SERVICE TIME THURSDAY AT THE CHURCH.
