Henderson Police investigating forged check incident


Henderson Police Department is investigating a forged check incident that occurred at a local bank.

Officers responded to Independence Bank in the 1100 block of Barret Boulevard in reference to someone trying to pass a forged check on Aug 15.

Police said that Michael E. Weddle, 28, of Evansville, was thought to be attempting to cash a forged check drawn on a local business. The owner of the check confirmed to police that it was a counterfeit check.

Weddle told officers that he and other people had been going around to area banks attempting to cash forged checks. Another man cashed a forged check drawn on another business before Weddle.

Weddle was arrested and charged with second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, theft by deception. He was lodged in the Henderson County Detention Center.
