Kentucky Transportation Cabinet To Host Public Meeting Seeking Local History Enthusiasts in Henderson Area


Will help document Black community history in I-69 Ohio River Crossing project area

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (Sept. 19, 2023) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and Cultural Resource Analysts, Inc. are hosting a public meeting to invite local community members to share information about Black community history in the I-69 Ohio River Crossing project area.

The organizations are working to develop a historic context addressing segregation and the ascent of the Black community in this region, aiming to identify and celebrate significant buildings and places vital to Black community life, such as churches, schools, medical facilities, housing, commercial hubs, recreation spots, and cemeteries.

The meeting will occur at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26 in the Henderson County Public Library’s new addition on the second floor located at 101 South Main Street in Henderson. Participants will be asked to provide oral history interviews, which will be curated with an accredited repository.
