The Henderson County Colonels faced off against the Owensboro Red Devils on the road at Rash Stadium in Owensboro.

 

The Colonels would strike first on their first drive of the night with a 10 play, 44 yard drive that ended with a 43 yard field goal made by junior kicker Carson Weiss as the Colonels would take an early 3-0 lead over the Red Devils with 6:42 to play in the first quarter. The Red Devils would respond right back on their first drive of the game with a 5 play, 77 yard drive that resulted in a 34 yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Trevor Delacey to junior running back Dereon Crowe, as after the made PAT, the Red Devils would take a 7-3 lead with 4:55 to play in the first quarter. The Colonels would have to punt on their next drive and then the Colonels defense forced a punt and recorded a interception by sophomore Jack Ryan Reusch and then converted it into points on their next offensive drive with a 40 yard field goal by Colonels junior kicker Carson Weiss, as the Colonels would cut the deficit to 7-6 with 8:02 to play in the first half. The Colonels would get a chance to take the lead on a 33 yard field goal but Weiss would miss it and the Colonels would trail 7-6 going into halftime.

 

The Red Devils would score on their first possession of the second half on a 5 play, 41 yard drive that resulted in a 13 yard touchdown run by sophomore running back Evan Hampton, as after the made PAT, the Red Devils would extend their lead to 14-6 over the Colonels with 9:45 to play in the third quarter. The Red Devils defense would force the Colonels to punt and then execute it on their next drive with a 8 play, 63 yard drive that ended with a 14 yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Trevor Delacey to sophomore wide receiver Chaydn Morris, as after the made PAT, the Red Devils would be ahead 21-6 with 3:42 to play in the third quarter. The Red Devils defense would force the Colonels to punt again and then execute it on their next drive with a 5 play, 50 yard drive that resulted in a 14 yard touchdown run by sophomore running back Evan Hampton, as after the blocked PAT, the Red Devils would extend their lead to 27-6 with 10:02 to play in the game. The Red Devils defense would force the Colonels to punt for a third straight and then execute it on their next drive with a 1 play, 58 yard touchdown run by junior running back Deion Winstead, as after the made PAT, the Red Devils would extend their lead to 34-6 with 5:38 to play in the game. The Colonels couldn’t score on their final drive of the game and would suffer a 34-6 loss in the final regular season game against the Red Devils. The Colonels end the regular season with a (4-6) record while the Red Devils end the regular season with a (6-4) record. 

 

Colonel’s senior quarterback Max Thompson was 11 for 20 with 126 passing yards on the night. Junior running back Tony Burrus rushed 25 times for 90 rushing yards on the night. Senior wide receiver Jackson Pendergraft had 6 receptions for 74 yards while senior wide receiver Koien Banks had 1 reception for 22 yards on the night. 

 

The Colonels as a team, had 119 yards rushing and 126 yards passing for a total of 245 yards of offense on the night. The Colonel’s defense allowed Owensboro to 248 yards rushing and 116 passing yards for a total of 364 yards of total offense on the night, as the Colonels forced 1 punt, 1 interception, and allowed Owensboro to get 16 first downs. The Colonels had 4 penalties for 30 yards while Owensboro had 5 penalties for 37 yards on the night.

 

The Colonels’ open postseason play in the first round of the Playoffs at home next Friday night, November 3rd, at Colonel Stadium taking on the Warren Central Dragons with the kickoff time TBD.
