LIVERMORE, Ky. (January 30, 2024) – An Island woman was killed after two vehicles collided on an ice-covered bridge Tuesday morning.
Kentucky State Police Post 16 Henderson received a call from McLean County Dispatch just after 6 a.m. Tuesday about a two-vehicle collision on the U.S. 431 bridge in Livermore.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Austin C. Himes, 19, of Utica, was traveling southbound on U.S. 431 in a gray 2008 Chevrolet Silverado truck. Angela Gay Johnston, 54, of Island, was traveling northbound on U.S. 431 in a silver 2016 Jeep Compass.
Himes lost control of his truck on the ice-covered bridge and slid into oncoming traffic, according to police. His truck struck Johnson’s Jeep, trapping her inside her vehicle.
First responders utilized equipment to extract her from the Jeep and performed life-saving measures.
Johnson was pronounced dead on-scene by the McLean County Coroner’s Office.
Himes was not injured. Both operators were wearing their seatbelts.
The investigation is on-going by the Kentucky State Police.
Kentucky State Police, McLean County Sheriff’s Office, Livermore and Central Fire Departments, McLean County EMS and McLean County Coroner’s Office assisted troopers at the scene.
