Niagara passes alcohol sales measure; Henderson voters back Biden, Trump in primaries


A measure allowing alcohol sales in Niagara has passed.

A little more than two-thirds of the people voting approved allowing alcohol sales in Niagara. The measure was placed on the ballot for Tuesday’s Kentucky Primary.

There were 240 votes cast total. Of those – 175 or 69% were in favor of allowing alcohol sales, while 75 or 31% were against it.

Henderson County residents only had one race to consider for the May Primary – the presidential race.

Registered Democrats had the option of voting for either President Joseph Biden, Marriane Williams, Dean Phillips, or casting an uncommitted vote. There were 1,846 total ballots cast for the Democratic primary in Henderson County.

Biden received 1,183 votes or 64%; Phillips received 115 votes or 6%; Williams received 104 votes or 6%; and there were 444 uncommitted votes cast or 24%.

Registered Republicans had the option of casting a vote for former President Donald Trump, Nikki Haley, Ron DeSantis, Vivek Ramaswamy, Chris Christie, Ryan Binkley or to cast an uncommitted vote. There were 1,386 ballots cast for the Republican primary in Henderson County.

Trump received 1,199 votes or 87%; Haley received 93 votes or 7%; DeSantis received 38 votes or 3%; Ramaswamy received 11 votes or 1%; Christie received 9 votes or 1%; Binkley received 7 votes or 1%; and there were 29 uncommitted votes or 2%.
