Six people injured in vehicle collision on South Green Street

A car race on South Green Street on Monday left six people injured after one of the vehicles collided with another vehicle not involved in the race.

Henderson Police Department said they responded to the 100 block of South Green Street at 8:14 p.m. Monday in reference to a two-vehicle accident with injuries.

Officers learned that a Challenger and a Mustang were racing northbound on South Green Street. The Mustang swerved in front of the Challenger, causing the Challenger to swerve into oncoming traffic and collide with a Chrysler Sebring.

The Mustang was not involved in the accident, but the driver did return to the scene and gave a statement to police.

Firefighters had to extricate people from both vehicles involved. Five people were transported to Henderson Deaconess Hospital, and one was transported to an Evansville hospital.

Police said the accident is still under investigation.
