MADISONVILLE, Ky. (05/31/2024) – A Dawson Springs man was killed in a fatal collision on Kentucky 70 near Madisonville on Thursday.
The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Department requested that Kentucky State Police Post 2 investigate a fatal collision that occurred at approximately 4:59 p.m. Thursday.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Jacob C. Adams, 29, of Dawson Springs, was operating a 2009 International Dump Truck eastbound on Kentucky 70. At the same time, Justin R. Hilt, 38, of Dawson Springs, was operating a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta westbound on Ky-70.
At approximately three miles west of Madisonville, the Volkswagen Jetta attempted to pass another vehicle traveling westbound. During this maneuver, the Volkswagen Jetta collided head-on with the dump truck.
The Hopkins County Coroner pronounced Hilt dead at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing by Accident Reconstructionist Technician Trooper Hunter Combs. KSP was assisted on scene by the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Department, Madisonville Fire Department, Richland Fire Department, Kentucky Emergency Management, and the Hopkins County coroner.
