Henderson, KY, USA / WSON AM & FM

One person and three animals were killed in a fire in the Spottsville area early Friday morning.

Spottsville Assistant Fire Chief Jim McGan said first responders arrived on scene to find a fully involved vehicle beside a one-story structure on Old Henderson-Spottsville Road at about 2 a.m. Friday. McGan said flames were starting to show through the roof.

Five people and five animals were reportedly in the home when the home caught fire. McGan said that four people and two dogs made it out of the burning home safely.

“Everyone just basically got out with the clothes they had on,” he said.

The name of the deceased person had not been released as of Friday afternoon. McGan said he believed the three dead animals were two dogs and a cat.

McGan said that one of the volunteer firefighters was injured while working the scene. He reportedly has a torn bicep.

Volunteer Fire Departments from Spottsville, Zion and Baskett responded, with assistance from Henderson City-County Rescue Squad. Emergency Medical Services, the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office, Emergency Medical Agency, Atmos Gas, and Kenergy also responded at the scene.

Firefighters cleared the scene at about 8:30 a.m. Friday. McGan said the home and car were total losses.

The cause of the fire has not been determined. The fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshall.
