Troutman Homers, Kemp Strikes Out 12

The Henderson County Lady Colonels faced off against the Anderson County Lady Bearcats in the Opening Round of the State Softball Tournament in Lexington this afternoon.

In the bottom of the 1st inning, the Lady Colonels would score 1 run in the inning on a RBI single by junior pitcher Anna Kemp, as the Lady Colonels would have an early 1-0 lead heading into the top of the 2nd.

In the bottom of the 2nd inning, the Lady Colonels would score on a 1 out RBI single by sophomore Mackenzie Burczyk  to extend the Lady Colonels lead to 2-0 heading into the top of the 3rd.

In the bottom of the 4th inning, the Lady Colonels would score 1 run on a 1 out RBI single by sophomore Mackenzie Burczyk to push the Lady Colonels lead to 3-0 heading into the top of the 5th.

In the top of the 5th inning, the Lady Bearcats would score 3 runs total on back to back errors to tie the game at 3-3 heading into the bottom of the 5th.

In the bottom of the 6th inning, the Lady Colonels would score 1 run on a strikeout to give the Lady Colonels back the lead, 4-3, heading into the top of the 7th.

In the top of the 5th inning, the Lady Bearcats would score 1 run on a sacrifice bunt to tie the game at 4-4 heading into the bottom of the 7th.

In the bottom of the 7th inning, the Lady Colonels would lead off the home half of the inning with senior first baseman Taylor Troutman on a 1-2 count would hit a ball to left center field that would ricochet off the scoreboard to walk off the game and give the Lady Colonels a 5-4 win. The Lady Colonels improve to (33-5) on the season while the Lady Bearcats season ends with a (26-12) record.

Lady Colonel’s senior catcher Hallie McCracken was 2 for 3 with a double while sophomore Mackenzie Burczyk was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI singles. Sophomore second baseman Ayden Bennett was 1 for 2 with 3 runs scored and 3 stolen bases while junior pitcher Anna Kemp was 1 for 3 with an RBI. Senior first baseman Taylor Troutman was 1 for 4 with a home run slam and an RBI on the afternoon.

Lady Colonels junior pitcher Anna Kemp in 7 innings allowed 5 hits and 1 earned run while walking 5 batters and recording 12 strikeouts on the afternoon.

As a team, the Lady Colonels scored 5 runs and recorded 7 hits, 4 RBI’s, 1 double, 1 home run, 3 stolen bases, and committed 4 errors on the afternoon.

The Lady Colonels will face off against the McCracken County Lady Mustangs tomorrow night in Lexington on the campus of the University of Kentucky at John Cropp Stadium in the State Softball Tournament with the first pitch set for 7:30 P.M. Central Time.
