SLAUGHTERS, Ky. (07/17/2024) – Kentucky State Police are investigating a fatal collision that killed an Evansville woman.
At approximately 1:32 a.m. Wednesday, the Webster County Sheriff’s Department requested KSP Post 2 to investigate a fatal collision on Interstate 69.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Dexter B. George, 30, of Greenville, was operating a silver Ford F-350 southbound on I-69.
At approximately the 131-mile marker, the Silver Ford collided with a red Nisan Altima that was traveling northbound in the southbound lane. The red Nissan Altima was operated by Krista N. Brune, 25, of Evansville Indiana.
The Webster County Coroner pronounced Brune deceased at the scene. George did not report any injuries.
The investigation is ongoing by Accident Reconstructionist Detective Brian Graves.
KSP plans to close both northbound lanes of I69 at Slaughters on Thursday morning to complete a crash reconstruction that they were unable to conclude Wednesday due to the weather.
Heavy rainfall in the early morning hours prevented KSP from completing their investigation of a crash on Wednesday. They now plan to close both northbound lanes from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday to complete that work.
Northbound traffic can detour around the closure by taking Exit 125 to Kentucky 138, then following Kentucky 138 one mile west to U.S. 41. The nearest onramp to return to the interstate is on Kentucky 56, about 18 miles away near Sebree.
