Inspections Planned for Both of the Twin Bridges in August

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (July 26, 2024) – A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to perform a routine inspection of both U.S. 41 bridges over the Ohio River, also known as the “Twin Bridges”, during the month of August. This will result in lane restrictions and possible traffic delays.

Palmer Engineering plans to begin inspection of the northbound bridge on Monday, August 5 at 9 a.m. From August 5 through Saturday, August 10, inspectors will be on the bridge from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Motorists should anticipate traffic being restricted to one lane during those hours.

A crew will return on Monday, August 19 to begin inspection of the southbound bridge, following the same work schedule and traffic control plan as the northbound bridge. Work is scheduled to be completed by Saturday, August 24.

Drivers are urged to watch for signage and other traffic control devices as they approach the bridge. Caution is necessary when workers and equipment are present close to the flow of traffic.

The northbound bridge opened to traffic in 1932, while its counterpart opened in 1965. Around 43,000 vehicles use the Twin Bridges to cross between Kentucky and Indiana every day.
