August is National Breastfeeding Month
The 2024 theme for National Breastfeeding Month is “Nourish, Sustain, Thrive,” which highlights the importance of protecting, promoting, and supporting lactation.
WIC is committed to being part of parents’ support systems by providing free phone and in-person services. Every year, August 1-7, we celebrate World Breastfeeding Week. This year, the theme “Closing the Gap: Breastfeeding Support for All” reaffirms GRDHD’s commitment to improve breastfeeding support in our communities.
Additionally, the United States Breastfeeding Committee (USBC) has introduced themes for each week in August and the first week in September with inclusive messaging. For more information call your local health
department, follow Green River District Health Department on Facebook, and visit our website at www.healthdepartment.org.
Make Sure Your Vaccinations Are Up to Date
With the start of school around the corner, it’s time to make sure school-age children are up to date on their vaccines. Vaccines are an effective way to prevent or protect against the harmful effects of serious disease.
On-time vaccination during childhood is important. Vaccinations help to provide immunity before children are exposed to potentially life-threatening diseases. As adults, staying up to date on vaccines remains important to prevent and reduce the risks of harmful disease.
To check you or your child’s immunization status you can go to the Kentucky Immunization Registry portal at
https://kyirpublicportal.ky.gov/ or contact your healthcare provider.
