The Henderson County Colonels opened up the 2024 football season against the Meade County Green Wave on the road last night in Brandenburg, Kentucky.

The Colonels would come away with a 43-29 victory against the Green Wave starting the season off in the win column with a (1-0) record while the Green Wave with a (0-1) start to the season.

Colonel senior quarterback Trajdon Davis was 9 for 19 with 135 yards and 1 touchdown pass as well as an interception thrown on the night. Senior quarterback Trajdon Davis rushed 21 times for 124 rushing yards and 3 rushing touchdowns while senior running back Tony Burrus rushed 13 times with 62 rushing yards on the night. Senior wide receiver Lacon McKinney had 4 receptions for 30 yards while junior running back Tony Burrus had 2 receptions for 65 yards. Senior wide receiver Maxton Meadows had 2 receptions for 34 yards and 1 receiving touchdown on the night. Junior King Combest returned a kickoff for an 82 yard touchdown return along with a strip fumble recovery in the end zone for a touchdown on the night.

The Colonels as a team, had 185 yards rushing and 135 yards passing for a total of 320 yards of offense on the night. The Colonel’s defense allowed the Green Wave to have 114 yards rushing and 269 passing yards for a total of 383 yards of total offense on the night, as the Colonels forced 4 fumbles and recovered 3 of the 4, 4 punts, and allowed the Green Wave 18 first downs. The Colonels had 11 penalties for 103 yards while the Green Wave had 12 penalties for 115 yards on the night.

The Colonels will take on the South Warren Spartans at home next Friday night, August 30th, at Colonel Stadium on Hall of Fame night with the kickoff at 7:00 P.M.
