Virginia Berry Heddens
Virginia Berry Heddens was born May 2, 1928, in Morganfield, KY, to James Driscoll Berry and Aseneth Dodge. She died at home in Fort Collins, CO on February 3, 2024.
Virginia (Ginny) was raised in Henderson, KY and matriculated at Murry State College where she was Miss Murry State in 1951 prior to graduating with a degree in English. Ginny moved to Denver Colorado in 1963 where she had a career as a librarian with the Denver Public Schools. Ginny obtained her Masters in Library science plus 90 hours. She was an avid reader of newspapers, magazines and books, and was always ready for a spirited conversation about current topics, politics, history, or a recent read. Ginny was an avid hiker, downhill and cross-country skier into her 80’s. She participated in many X-Country citizen races, hiked several of the 14,000 foot peaks in Colorado and took her young granddaughters on many outdoor adventures all over the United States.
She is preceded in death by her brother Franklin Berry MD, her sister Betsy Lesnikowski, and her son-in-law Riley Smith.
She is survived by her sisters Pat (James) Hearing and Bobbie (Robert) Tucker; her children: Kimber (Stancy) Heddens, Elizabeth (Riley) Smith and John (Mindy) Heddens; her granddaughters Myriah (Saurabh) Heddens-Prasad and Hannah (Jackson) McCormick; and two great- grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to Ginny’s Life Celebration from 9:00 a.m. until the service time on Saturday, September 28th, 2024, at Benton-Glunt & Tapp funeral home. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Internment in the Odd Fellows cemetery in Boxville to follow.
Charitable donations can be made in her name to the local Boys and Girls Club or the Friends of Audubon.
