Owensboro man arrested after leading authorities on chase across twin bridges this weekend


An Owensboro man who led authorities on a chase that ended near Ellis Park has been arrested on numerous charges.

Henderson Police Department said its officers were called at 3:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 17th to the 2200 block of U.S. 41-North for a report of a driver passed out in a brown Buick. When officers arrived and attempted contact the driver, the man drove away.

The driver was later identified as Dymond L Harris, 25, of Owensboro.

Harris drove north toward the twin bridges and crossed into the southbound lanes. Police said Harris crossed the Ohio River traveling in the wrong direction on the southbound bridge. Several cars had to take action to avoid a head-on collision.

A Henderson patrol officer was able get ahead of the chase and successfully deploy a Stop Stick tire deflation device. Harris came to a stop in a ditch near Ellis Park.

He was taken into custody without further incident.

Harris was in possession of a handgun when he was arrested. Harris has a previous felony conviction in Warrick County, IN and is prohibited from possessing a firearm.

He submitted to a chemical breath test which showed he was above the legal limit to operate a motor vehicle.

Harris was booked into the Henderson County Detention Center on the following charges: reckless driving, fleeing police, wanton Endangerment, DUI, possession of a handgun by a
Convicted Felon, Possession of Open Container, No Insurance, No Vehicle Registration. He is being held on a $10,000 cash bond.

Harris is presumed innocent unless convicted in a court of law.
