Lewis R. Cheaney, 82, of Henderson passed away Saturday, November 16, 2024 at St. Anthony’s Hospice Lucy Smith King Care Center.
Lewis was born in Evansville on June 29, 1942 to the late Hugh Bethel and Margaret Louise (Glassco) Cheaney.
Lewis earned a double major in Management Accounting and Agriculture from Murray State University and pursued graduate studies at the University of Evansville. Throughout his career, Lewis combined his expertise by working in management accounting while also engaging in farming.
Lewis was an ordained Deacon at IBT and also served as a Deacon and member of Henderson’s First Baptist Church. He dedicated his time to the community by serving on the board of Christian Community Outreach. Additionally, he was an active member the Rizpah Shriners Organization, Masonic Lodge #958, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Scottish Rite. His exemplary contributions were recognized with the prestigious Knights of the York Cross of Honour, and he was also honored as a Kentucky Colonel.
Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years Mary Cheaney; two sons Jonathan Lewis Cheaney (Alisha), Benjamin Wade Cheaney (Crystal); six grandchildren Conor, Tyler, Gavin, Maryann “Izzy”, Oliver, Samuel; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be 1:00 PM, Thursday November 21, 2024 at Tomblinson Funeral Home Henderson Chapel with Pastor Kenny Kidd and Bro. Sam Hinkson officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmont Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 PM Wednesday, November 20 with Masonic Services at 6:00 PM and Thursday 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Cory Bridges, Donald Bridges, Gavin Cheaney, Michael Biggs, Ronald Powell, Steve Bridges.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Christian Community Outreach or St. Anthony’s Hospice.
