Henderson County Storm Debris Disposal Sites to Open Monday

Henderson County Government has teamed with the cities of Corydon and Robards to establish four drop-off sites local citizens can use to dispose of tree debris from the recent winter storm at no charge.

The materials yard at Sandy Lee Watkins Park, the Henderson County Fairgrounds and Robards City Hall will be available from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday starting Monday, Jan. 27 and ending March 1. Those sites will be staffed by county personnel who can assist in unloading the debris.

Any citizens of Henderson County, including City of Henderson residents, can bring their storm debris to these locations.

A site next to Crawford Park in Corydon is currently open seven days a week during daytime hours and is available for use by City of Corydon residents and those from rural areas immediately surrounding Corydon. The Corydon site will close on Feb. 7.

At each site only tree debris will be accepted. No construction demolition debris, tree root balls, tires or non-storm debris of any kind will be accepted.

Henderson County-based tree services bringing storm debris from the property of local residents will be accepted. Anyone coming to drop off debris must be prepared to show a government-issued ID or valid license plate showing they are a Henderson County resident or tree service.

There will not be a limit on the number of loads a household can bring. The Robards site will be under video surveillance at all times.

Henderson County residents who live outside the City of Henderson limits also have the option to burn storm debris on their properties, take debris to the city landfill during its regular hours to use private tree services to remove debris. Local tree services should not charge customers a disposal fee if they plan to take the debris to one of the free drop-off sites.
