Henderson Police Department is investigating a bomb threat that was made towards the Henderson County Public Library on Thursday morning.
Henderson Police Department received a 911 call at 8:20 a.m. Thursday from the Henderson County Public Library, said HPD Public Information Officer Jason Cullum.
“An employee had found a handwritten note inside the building indicating that there was a bomb in the building,” Cullum said.
Library employees were evacuated from the downtown Henderson building, he said. As the library had not yet opened for regular business, there were no library patrons inside the building when the note was discovered.
Employees waited outside the library until officers arrived.
“An initial check of the building was done with the officers and library staff and nothing suspicious or hazardous was found,” Cullum said. “But we requested assistance from the Evansville Police Department and one of their bomb dog teams to come over and do a secondary check of the building just to be cautious.”
EPD was unable to locate anything suspicious either, so at about 10:30 a.m. Thursday, the library opened for normal operations for the day, he said.
“We have an ongoing investigation into the origins of the note,” Cullum said. “We’re working with library staff to try to determine who was in the area of the building where the note was found, and if we can identify any of those individuals to do some additional follow ups to see if we can find out who left the note in the building.”
