The Colonels came away with a, 59-55, win in overtime against the Lyon County Lyons in the semifinals of the 2nd Region Tournament at Madisonville-North Hopkins High School in Madisonville last night.
With this win, Colonels Head Coach Tyler Smithhart became the winningest Head Coach in Colonels Basketball history. Smithhart passed Phil Gibson who won 260 games in 12 seasons with the Colonels.
The leading scorers for the Lyons was Isaac Defew with 14 points and 7 rebounds while Bray Kirk had 13 points, 4 assists, and 3 rebounds. Carson Collins had 12 points and 4 rebounds while Nolan Coffman had 11 points, 18 rebounds, and 5 assists. Cooper Collins tallied 3 points and 4 rebounds while Korben Lucas added 2 points on the night.
The leading scorers for the Colonels was Cooper Davenport with 19 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals while Amare Stewart had 13 points. Lacon McKinney scored 9 points and grabbed 4 rebounds while Xavion Johnson tallied 8 points and 8 assists. Dwaine Moss had 7 points while Elijah Suggs had 3 points, 6 blocks, and 4 rebounds on the night.
The Colonels had 2 players that were named to the All 2nd Region Team for the regular season as pictured above left to right: Elijah Suggs and Cooper Davenport.
The Lyons shot 2 for 22 (9%) from the 3 point line to the Colonels 10 for 21 (48%). The Lyons shot 11 for 14 (79%) from the free throw line to the Colonels 5 for 10 (50%). The Lyons had a total of 41 rebounds while the Colonels had 18 total rebounds. The Colonels tallied 13 assists, 6 steals, and 7 blocks. The Lyons committed 10 turnovers to the Colonels committing 6 turnovers on the night.
The Colonels improve to (24-6) on the season while the Lyons season ends with a (25-8) record.
The Colonels will face off against the Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroons on Tuesday night, March 18th, in the Championship Game of the 2nd Region Tournament at Madisonville-North Hopkins High School with the tip off at 7:00 P.M.
