There are several traffic restrictions underway or upcoming in the next several weeks, including some extended restrictions.
Restrictions Currently Underway
Southbound US 41 Lane Restriction
A single-lane restriction on southbound US 41 from KY 351 to Audubon Parkway started around March 10 and is expected to be in place through at least the end of May to construct the noise wall at Vanguard Avenue. The lane restriction will likely be extended to accommodate work on the Airline Road bridge and the demolition of the KY 2084 overpass.
Northbound US 41 Lane Restriction
A single-lane restriction on northbound US 41 at the KY 351/2nd Street overpass bridge started this week (Monday, March 31) and is expected to continue through at least late April to complete pavement work on the approach to the US 41 overpass bridge. The lane restriction will likely be extended to accommodate work on the Airline Road bridge and the demolition of the KY 2084 overpass.
Daily Lane Closures
Daily lane closures at multiple locations along northbound and southbound US 41 between KY 425 and US 60 are expected the several weeks for work on panel signs, lighting, guardrail, asphalt paving, final grading, and seeding.
US 60 Lane Shifts
Drivers have likely noticed lane shifts along US 60. These started in mid-March with narrower lanes and shoulders as work on the new US 60 interchange continues.
Upcoming Restrictions and Traffic News
US 60 Traffic Shift – Expected Around Friday, April 11 and Saturday, April 12
Traffic will shift and begin using the new pavement on the roundabouts under construction. Traffic will be utilizing new pavement which includes the outside lane of all three roundabouts. Shifting traffic to the new pavement allows crews more room to work as they continue to build the new US 60 interchange with three roundabouts in place.
KY 2084 Overpass Demolition – Mid-April
Overnight closures of northbound and southbound US 41 are expected, and additional rolling roadblocks may be needed. More details will be announced closer to date.
Airline Road Bridge Closure – Late April
The Airline Road overpass bridge over US 41 is expected to close on or after Monday, April 21 and remain closed for a few months. The planned detour will utilize Garden Mile Road. More details will be shared closed to date. Crews will complete major improvements to the bridge including replacing all beams and the bridge deck, along with upgrades to the barrier and guardrail. For bridge demolition, US 41 is expected to have two nights of road closures with detours and daily lane restrictions. Crews hope to have the bridge reopened by the start of the new school year in August.
Adams Lane Bridge – Expected to Reopen
Significant improvements are also being made at the Adams Lane overpass bridge over US 41. Work started in December, and the bridge is expected to reopen by mid to late May.
Future Long-Term Closure
A long-term lane restriction at US 60 is planned for late this spring/summer. The closure will limit US 60 to a single lane of traffic at US 41/Future I-69. Bi-directional traffic will utilize a single lane of traffic. Movement will be controlled by traffic signals. More details will be provided closer to date.
Tri-Fest Participation
The I-69 Ohio River Crossing team will again have a booth at Tri-Fest in Henderson later this month. Project Team members from ORX Section 1 and Section 3 will be available to talk about progress on both sides of the river. The team will be available 12 to 6 p.m. Saturday and 12 to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Information will be provided on the US 60 roundabouts expected to open this summer, including a tabletop map and exercise. Progress photos and videos and giveaways will also be available.
Actual dates are subject to change and may also be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen activities occur.
