Nighttime Lane Closures Planned on KY 54 in Owensboro Next Week

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (May 29, 2025) – A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is planning nighttime lane closures as part of the Kentucky 54 Widening Project next week in Owensboro.

Nightly from June 2 through June 4, crews will be closing portions of the right lane from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. to begin the installation of a new storm sewer that will run alongside the new roadway.

These temporary closures will be located between Hayden Drive (2.95 mm) and Ralph Avenue (3.65 mm) but will not run the length of the project. The contractor plans to block the lane section by section as they advance from Hayden to Ralph.

The new storm drain is being installed to handle storm water runoff for the new median that will be installed near the end of the project.

Kentucky 54 is one of the busiest stretches of roadway in Daviess County, with around 32,000 cars passing between Heartland Crossing Boulevard, just west of U.S. 60, and Bold Forbes Way in the east every day.

In order to accommodate existing traffic, and to allow for continued development in the area, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is the process of widening the roadway to three-lanes in each direction with a concrete median for added safety.
