An anti-domestic violence nonprofit co-founder has been accused of domestic violence.

Henderson Police Department said they arrested Michael Jason “Jay” Randolph, 55, after an altercation at the Randolph home.

Brecken Randolph called 911 at around 5:30 p.m. Friday, according to police. He met with officers at the police station and told them he had left the house after being assaulted by his father, Jay Randolph.

The adult son said a verbal dispute turned physical when his father pushed him against the window and placed both hands around his neck. Brecken Randolph said Jay Randolph applied pressure for approximately a minute before letting go.

Police said that Brecken Randolph had marks on his neck that were reportedly from the incident. An ambulance crew responded to the police station to examine Brecken Randolph. He did not require further medical treatment at that time.

Officers responded to the home at 1300 Loeb Street and spoke with Jay Randolph. He denied strangling his son but said there was an altercation where both men pushed each other.

According to the police citation, both men said they had gotten into an argument over Brecken Randolph’s dogs and his wanting to move out. Jay Randolph said his son lunged at him and used his chest to bump into him. Jay Randolph told police he was defending himself.

Based on the statements and physical evidence available, officers arrested Jay Randolph on charges of first-degree strangulation (domestic violence).

He was booked in the Henderson County Detention Center, where he was released on a $1,000 bond on Saturday.

Randolph is scheduled to appear in court at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Jay Randolph and his wife Kristie Randolph are the co-founders of the anti-domestic violence nonprofit The Chloe Randolph Organization. The nonprofit was named after their daughter was murdered by her estranged husband in 2019.

Kristie Randolph told WFIE that her husband no longer has an active role in the organization.
