Nan Glass Craig, died July 12, 2025, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, IN, from complications following a broken hip.
Nan was born November 23, 1933, in Harrison, Arkansas, to the late Ruth Worthington Glass and William Palmer Glass. She spent the first nine years of her life in small town Harrison, Arkansas, gateway to the Ozarks. As the youngest child, she was quite a bit younger than her siblings— her brothers were 16 and 18 years older, and her sister Mary was 9 years older. Nan dearly loved Mary and remained close to her throughout her life. Nan’s family moved to Little Rock, Arkansas, for better job opportunities for her father. Nan graduated from famed Central High School in Little Rock, class of 1951, and was a member of the honor society. She and her sister Mary moved to Washington, D.C. to work as secretaries after she graduated, but they only stayed 3 months. Nan returned to Little Rock and worked as a secretary for the telephone company for five years. In Little Rock, Nan met the love of her life on a blind date that her sister set up (so don’t discount blind dates!), and she married him, Joe Lockett Craig, on October 12, 1957. She moved to Henderson, Kentucky, Joe’s hometown, where she lived for the rest of her life. She loved her neighborhood in Riverdale Court. Her church, First Baptist of Henderson, was very important to her. She and Joe taught seventh grade Sunday school for many years. Later they very much enjoyed their senior adult Sunday school class taught by Carol Buchanan. She loved her Sunday School classmates, and they were a great help to her after Joe died. Nan enjoyed her bridge group for years. She said she was never very good at bridge but enjoyed the fellowship. She loved to talk and was a generous friend. Reading, traveling, participating in Homemakers club, watching old movies, and trying new recipes were her main interests. Nan was extremely accomplished at needlepoint—her pillows and Christmas ornaments are works of art. She volunteered with her daughter’s school functions and was a Girl Scout Brownie leader. She and Joe volunteered with the Answer Center in Henderson for years. She always enjoyed the fellowship with the other volunteers, and they were some of her best friends. Nan was a fun grandmother. She took three little grandsons down the waterslides at Holiday World well into her senior citizen years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Jack Glass, Joe Glass, and Mary Glass Adler. Her husband of 66 years, Joe Lockett Craig, died in 2024.
Surviving Nan are her daughter, Laura Craig Linger and her husband, Dr. Craig Linger of Waynesville, North Carolina; grandsons, Dr. Nathaniel Craig Linger and wife Lisa, of Roanoke, Virginia; Noah Joseph Linger and his wife Meredith of Raleigh, North Carolina; Thomas Harrison Linger of Queens, New York; and great grandchildren, Joseph Scott Linger and Claire Monroe Linger of Raleigh, North Carolina.
