Henderson County falls short in 40-14 loss to Gibson Southern

On a night when Gibson Southern’s offense clicked from the first snap, the Titans made a loud statement, rolling past Henderson County 40-14 in front of a charged-up home crowd in Fort Branch, Indiana.

The Titans (3-1) came at the Colonels (1-2) in waves. Quarterback Zach Foster was a true dual-threat, as he pounded the ball between the tackles for 114 yards on the ground, while cousin, running back Eli Foster slashed for 94 more, giving Gibson Southern a one-two punch Henderson couldn’t contain. In the passing game, Zach Foster carved up the secondary for 151 yards and four touchdowns through the air, with four different receivers hitting paydirt.

Lloyd Sellers electrified the crowd with a 6-catch, 80-yard, 1 TD night, while Colin Scherer, Noah Kuester, and Peyton Johnson all found the end zone, not to mention a batted around pass for a touchdown caught by Offensive Lineman Spencer Staggs.

That being said, Henderson County fought to stay in it, and quarterback Brody Belt gave the Colonels a spark early. He connected with Hezzi Harris for a 56-yard bomb that silenced the home crowd for a moment in the first quarter, but the Colonels wouldn’t score again until the fourth on Kieran Cole’s rushing TD. But beyond those flashes, Henderson’s offense stalled — tallying 127 total yards on 36 plays.

Meanwhile, Gibson Southern piled it on, snapping the ball 81 times, racking up 20 first downs and owning third down conversions for 394 yards of total offense. And in the fourth quarter, it was all Titans, as they sealed a convincing 40-14 victory.

Henderson County, now 1-2 on the young season, returns home on Friday, September 19th when they host Daviess County at Colonel Stadium for their annual Homecoming game. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
