Colonels Advance to Semi-State After Runner-Up Finish at Regionals

The Henderson County Colonels turned in a strong performance at Tuesday’s Region 2 Golf Tournament at Hopkinsville High Country Club finishing runner-up with a team score of 316. With the second-place finish, the Colonels advance to next Tuesday’s Semi-State Tournament at Calvert City Country Club.

Owensboro Catholic captured the team championship, shooting a 311 to edge Henderson by five strokes.

For the Colonels, senior Jake Hayden led the way with a 75, finishing tied for third—just one shot out of the playoff. Fellow senior Bentley Simpson came through with a career-best 76, placing 6th overall and giving Henderson a crucial boost. Junior Levi Smith added an 82, while sophomore Mason Ranes rounded out the scoring with an 83.

Individually, Muhlenberg County’s Cy Tudor claimed the region title after winning a two-hole playoff over Owensboro Catholic’s Vince Hayden, both finishing regulation at 74.

The Colonels now look ahead to the Semi-State round Tuesday at Calvert City Country Club.
