Kentucky State Police Investigates Fatal Collision in Hopkins County


MADISONVILLE, KY. (September 25, 2025) – The Kentucky State Police Post 2 in Madisonville is investigating a fatal collision involving a semi-truck and vehicle (sedan) that occurred Wednesday night in Hopkins County near Dawson Springs, Kentucky.

At approximately 11:30 PM CT, Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office contacted KSP Post 2 requesting assistance with a collision on Interstate I-69 northbound near the 92 mile-marker. The incident involved a semi-truck and trailer versus a sedan vehicle.

Preliminary investigation indicates that Jose Tovar-Silva, 51 years old, of Sanluis Potosi, Mexico, was operating a semi-truck and trailer southbound on I-69.  The operator of the semi-truck reported observing a vehicle travelling northbound cross the median and enter his lane of travel causing a collision.

The north bound vehicle, identified as Julia Jones, 64 years old, of Blue Mountain, Arkansas, was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Hopkins County Coroner. Yell County Sheriff’s Office in Arkansas assisted with notifying the family.

The operator of the semi-truck was not injured in the incident. At this time, no criminal charges have been filed.

The investigation is ongoing and is being led by Detective Jacob Stephens (U/1216) of the Kentucky State Police.
