The Henderson County Colonels opened their preseason Saturday night with a 53-44 setback at Grayson County.
Junior point guard Xavion Johnson, the team’s lone returning starter from last year’s region championship squad, paced Henderson with 11 points. Zayden Martin, also a junior, added 8 points, while sophomore Brayden Dennis chipped in 6.
The game was deadlocked at 24-24 at halftime before Grayson County pulled away in the second half. Henderson County will host Owensboro Catholic in its final scrimmage on Tuesday, November 25, at 6 p.m. The Colonels then tip off the regular season at home on Tuesday, December 2, against defending Region 3 champion Daviess County.
