The Henderson County Lady Colonels (1-0) shook off a slow start and pulled away in the second half for a 62-49 season-opening win over McCracken County (1-1) Friday night at Colonel Gym.
Henderson trailed 13-9 after the first quarter but surged ahead 26-20 at halftime and stretched the lead to 42-28 after three behind decisive defense and rebounding. The Lady Colonels won the battle on the glass 34-27 and forced 28 Mustang turnovers, though they committed 22 themselves.
Senior A’Tylia Green filled the stat sheet with 14 points and 8 rebounds, adding several assists, steals, and a few blocks to pace Henderson County. Sophomore Nevaeh Dixon scored 12 points—nine coming in the fourth quarter—and grabbed four rebounds. Callie Burnett added 11 points and four boards, while JaNyla Locher scored nine. Senior point guard Addy Gish finished with six, and sophomores Jersey Gardner and Maggee Melvin chipped in four each, with Melvin pulling down seven rebounds.
The Lady Colonels went 9-for-21 at the free-throw line and 2-for-10 from three, while McCracken County finished 8-for-11 at the line and 3-for-12 from beyond the arc.
Henderson County returns to action Saturday at 4 p.m. against North Bullitt in the Breckinridge County Tip-Off Classic.
