Lady Colonels Roll Past Shorthanded Memorial, 70-17

Henderson, KY, USA / WSON AM & FM

The Henderson County Lady Colonels (2-1) cruised to a 70-17 victory over a severely shorthanded Evansville Memorial team (0-6) Monday night at Colonel Gym, bouncing back with energy and sharp shooting after Saturday’s loss to North Bullitt.

Memorial, missing seven of its top eight players due to injury, struggled to keep pace as Henderson forced 31 turnovers — including 11 in the opening quarter — to jump ahead 20-5 after one. The Lady Colonels surged to a 49-10 halftime lead, and the second half was played with a running clock under the mercy rule.

Henderson’s offense found its rhythm, knocking down 8-of-23 from three after hitting just 3-of-23 over the first two games.

Senior A’Tylia Green led the way with 13 points. Sophomore Bella Estabrook posted a career-high 11 points with three three-pointers. JaNyla Locher scored eight. Seventh-grader Kenley Evans and eighth-grader Brynn Rideout each recorded their first varsity points — Evans finishing with six points and a team-high eight rebounds, while Rideout added five.

Addy Gish, Nevaeh Dixon, and Maggee Melvin each scored six. Jersey Gardner had five, and Callie Burnett added four.

Henderson County returns to action Thursday at 7 p.m. on the road at Evansville Central.
