Colonels Pound Patriots in Home Opener

The Henderson County Colonels (3-1) earned a convincing 68-50 victory over Allen County-Scottsville (2-3) Saturday night at Colonel Gym in their home opener.

Henderson jumped out to a 21-14 lead after the first quarter before the Patriots closed the gap late in the second, sending the Colonels to halftime up 32-28. Henderson regained control after the break, stretching the margin to 55-41 by the end of the third quarter and pulling away down the stretch.

Junior Amare Stewart delivered a career night, pouring in a career-high 27 points while knocking down six three-pointers and pulling down seven rebounds. Junior Xavion Johnson added a strong all-around performance with 14 points, six rebounds, and five blocks.

Jarren Byrum finished with 12 points on four made threes and grabbed four rebounds. JahMarion Isabel and Braden Williams scored four points apiece, with Williams leading the Colonels on the glass with a team-high nine rebounds. Landon Smith connected on a three, while Alexavier Jones and MaLaikye Taylor chipped in two points each.

Henderson County is back in action Monday night at Colonel Gym, hosting University Heights Academy with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m.
