Lady Colonels Reach Milestone on Senior Night

Henderson, KY, USA / WSON AM & FM

Henderson County cruised past Webster County 63-17 on Senior Night at Colonel Gym.

The game’s first basket belonged to senior Brooklyn Gibson, who has not played this season after suffering a torn ACL over the summer. In a classy gesture, Webster County allowed Gibson an uncontested basket to open the game. Henderson returned the favor on the ensuing possession, and Gibson exited the floor to a standing ovation.

From there, the Lady Colonels took control, forcing several early turnovers and building a 23-4 lead after the first quarter. Henderson extended the advantage to 40-6 at halftime and put the running clock in motion early in the third quarter, leading 53-12 after three.

Along with Gibson’s two points, fellow seniors A’Tylia Green poured in 23 points, while Addy Gish added two. Estelle Erbst scored a career-high 10 points, all in the fourth quarter. Callie Burnett finished with seven points, Jersey Gardner had six, Maggee Melvin scored five, JaNyla Locher added four, and Nevaeh Dixon and Kenley Evans chipped in two apiece.

The victory marked a historic milestone — the 1,000th win in Henderson County girls basketball program history, a feat achieved by only Marshall County and Sacred Heart in Kentucky. It was also career win No. 100 for head coach Stephen Haile.

The Lady Colonels are back in action Friday at 6 p.m. on the road at Union County.
