Deputies Investigating Fatal Crash on I69


A person walking in the roadway on I-69 in Evansville was struck and killed by a vehicle early Monday morning.

Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched at about 12:13 a.m. Monday to a report of a person walking in the roadway on I-69 west of the Covert Avenue exit. Approximately three minutes later, an additional caller reported that the subject had been struck by a vehicle.

Deputies arrived on scene and located a white Ford Edge in the median, as well as the victim lying near the shoulder of the roadway. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Ford Edge remained on scene and fully cooperated with deputies.

In accordance with Indiana law, the driver submitted to a chemical test following the fatal crash. At this time, alcohol or drugs are not believed to be a factor.

A crash reconstructionist responded to the scene, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office said it will release the identity of the deceased person at a later time.
