HENDERSON, KY. – Travelers can now book a 2027 Viking cruise that includes Henderson, Kentucky as a permanent stop, as the Viking Mississippi expands her itineraries to include the Ohio River. The move will bring hundreds of visitors from around the world to Henderson’s riverfront and marks a major milestone for the community’s tourism industry, according to the Henderson Tourist Commission.
“This is an incredible opportunity for us to welcome visitors from all over and share our community’s story,” said Abby Dixon, executive director of the Henderson Tourist Commission. “Becoming a permanent stop on a Viking itinerary reflects the strength of our partnerships and the memorable experiences our local businesses, attractions, and residents provide. We’re proud to invite travelers from around the world to experience the front porch of our warm hospitality.”
Henderson’s relationship with Viking began in 2024, when last-minute diversions off the newly launched Mississippi River cruise and onto the Ohio gave the community an unexpected opportunity to host Viking cruisers. Those early visits showcased Henderson’s charm, history, and hospitality, helping to pave the way for Henderson to become a regular stop on future itineraries.
Cruise guests will be able to choose from a variety of curated shore excursions designed to highlight Henderson’s unique character organized by the Henderson Tourist Commission. Options include time at Audubon State Park, the Porches & Petals Historic Home Tour, a Bourbon and BBQ experience, an insider look at Thoroughbred racing at Ellis Park, farm-to-table experiences at Farmer & Frenchman Winery & Cafe, and tours of the historic Carnegie Library, among other experiences.
Each visit will begin with a warm Kentucky welcome, complete with a bluegrass music greeting by Kings Highway’s father-son duo Mark and Zeb Hargis as guests disembark.
The Viking Mississippi is scheduled to dock in Henderson on the following dates in 2027: June 12, June 18, Nov. 6, and Nov. 12.
An extra special treat awaits passengers arriving on Friday, June 18, 2027, when their stop in Henderson will coincide with the iconic W.C. Handy Blues & BBQ Festival, offering an authentic taste of the city’s musical heritage.
