Henderson County Water District replacing water meters in Reed, Spottsville and Baskett starting Monday

Henderson, KY, USA / WSON AM & FM

Henderson County Water District will begin replacing customer water meters in the communities of Reed, Spottsville, and Baskett as part of a systemwide improvement effort starting Monday, February 16th.

Beginning Monday, HCWD staff and AllDrive, a contractor procured by HCWD, will start installing new Neptune Mach 10 Ultrasonic customer water meters.

These new meters use advanced ultrasonic technology, have no moving parts, and provide extremely accurate water usage readings. This marks the first major meter replacement project in more than ten years for HCWD.

Over the past several months, HCWD personnel have been preparing for this project by marking meter locations and updating our Geographic Information System maps, which help staff locate meters more efficiently in the field.

During installation, customers may briefly see interruptions in their water service while the new meter is being connected. Each service interruption is expected to last only a few minutes, and crews will work as quickly and safely as possible to minimize inconvenience. There will not be a boil water advisory for these meter installations.

Customers in Reed, Spottsville, and Baskett will see both HCWD and Team AllDrive staff working in the area. All Team AllDrive installers will be wearing identifiable uniforms clearly marked with their company name.

All vehicles will be marked with AllDrive signs and all installers will have class 3 safety apparel clearly marked with AllDrive logos and employee ID badges as well.

Approximately four installers will be onsite during the first week, with five to eight installers expected the following week. Installs will run from next week and continue each day weather permitting until the job is completed. Approximately 1/3 of the 6500 meters in the system will be replaced with this project. Moving forward, HCWD is currently applying for funding to replace the other 2/3 of the customer meters, we will announce when we will perform this next phase of the project.

Superintendent Mark Julian said the district appreciates customers’ patience and understanding as the district completes this essential system upgrade. He added that these new meters will help HCWD improve service accuracy, efficiency, and reliability for years to come.
