The Union County Braves advanced to the 6th District Championship with a 52-48 victory over the Webster County Trojans Tuesday night in Dixon.
Webster led 14-13 after the first quarter, but Union responded to take a 28-26 halftime advantage. The Braves extended the margin to 39-33 after three and pushed the lead to 12 early in the fourth. Webster battled back to within three in the final minute, but Union held on down the stretch.
Daishawn Curry led the Braves with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Gavyn Black added 14 points and 5 rebounds off the bench. Bubba Rapier scored 9 points and 3 boards, Cale Johnson had 7 points and 2 rebounds, Jace Wilson finished with 3 points and 4 rebounds, Hayden Mills added 2 points and 2 rebounds, and Marcus Patterson chipped in 1 point and 1 rebound.
Union shot 18-27 from the free-throw line and 2-14 from three-point range. Webster finished 11-21 at the line — including just 4-10 in the fourth quarter comeback attempt — and 3-21 from beyond the arc. Union held a 35-33 edge on the boards and committed 9 turnovers to Webster’s 6.
Webster County concludes its season with a 20-9 record. Union County (18-11) will face the Henderson County Colonels (23-4) Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Webster County High School in the 6th District Championship.
