
The Henderson County Lady Colonels defeated the Hopkins County Central Lady Storm on their home floor Friday night, 71-64, in the Region 2 Tournament semifinals.
Region Player of the Year A’Tylia Green poured in 26 points and Henderson’s hot three-point shooting proved to be the difference. The Lady Colonels went a blistering 7-8 from three-point range in the second half and finished 10-16 from deep for the game.
Henderson led 18-12 after the first quarter and extended the margin to 36-27 by halftime. The Lady Storm cut the deficit to 49-44 after three quarters, but Henderson answered with timely threes and key plays down the stretch to secure the win.
The Lady Colonels shot 8-17 from the free-throw line while Central went 8-14. Hopkins County Central finished 4-9 from three-point range. The Lady Storm held a slight 30-28 rebounding advantage, while Henderson took care of the basketball with just four turnovers compared to eight for Central.
Green led the way with 26 points and 5 rebounds, going 6-7 at the free-throw line. JaNyla Locher and Maggee Melvin each added 10 points and 6 rebounds, with both knocking down key threes late in the game. Jersey Gardner provided a big spark off the bench with three first-half three-pointers to finish with 9 points. Callie Burnett added 8 points and 2 rebounds, Addy Gish had 6 points and 5 rebounds, and Nevaeh Dixon chipped in 2 points.
Henderson County, winners of 8 straight games, improves to 23-9 and will face the Crittenden County Lady Rockets (26-5) in the Region 2 Championship Game Saturday night at 7 p.m. Crittenden has won 7 straight coming in to the final. Their last loss was a 48-39 defeat to Henderson at Colonel Gym on February 12.
