Two Arrested After Joint Narcotics Investigation


Two Evansville men were arrested on drug-related charges following a police pursuit.

The Evansville Vanderburgh County Joint Task Force conducted a narcotics investigation in the area of Madison Avenue and SE Second Street on Tuesday.

A car stop was attempted, but the driver fled from detectives. The vehicle was located nearby and Chelsea M. Brown, 31, and Robert J. Harwell, 28, were seen fleeing on foot.

After both were detained, additional officers located the driver, William C. Hamer, 52.

Inside the vehicle, detectives located an AR-15 rifle, more than 200 rounds of ammunition, approximately three grams of suspected Fentanyl, more than 30 grams of methamphetamine, suspected marijuana as well as Alprazolam and Gabapentin pills.

Harwell also removed bags from the vehicle that held a 9mm handgun, more than 100 rounds of ammunitions, approximately 2.5 ounces of suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Another 9 mm handgun was located nearby by a police K9.

Harwell was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and dealing marijuana.

Hamer was arrested and charged with dealing methamphetamine, possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, dealing narcotic drug, dealing marijuana, habitual traffic violator-lifetime and two counts of resisting law enforcement.

Brown was released at the scene.
