On March 22, 2026, at approximately 6:41 p.m., Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Deputies observed a white Chevrolet Silverado commit a traffic violation near the intersection of U.S. 41 and Virginia Street. A traffic stop was initiated near Oak Hill Road and East Columbia Street; however, the vehicle fled from deputies.
Deputies pursued the vehicle for approximately five minutes before briefly losing sight of it. The vehicle was later located near Haven Drive and Morgan Avenue; however, the driver, later identified as Larry Scott Porter II, had fled the area on foot.
Deputies developed information indicating Porter had left the area using a rideshare service and was possibly at a residence in the 100 block of Center Street in northern Vanderburgh County. Deputies, along with an Evansville Police Department K9 unit, responded to the area. Porter was located hiding on the property and surrendered to deputies without further incident. He later made a post-Miranda statement admitting to fleeing from deputies.
An inventory of the vehicle Porter had been operating resulted in the discovery of a white powdery substance in the driver’s side door pocket. The substance field-tested positive for fentanyl and weighed approximately 5.5 grams. Deputies also determined Porter was operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license and had an active felony warrant from Warrick County.
Porter was booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail.
