An Evansville man has been arrested in connection with dealing fentanyl out of his home.
Detectives with the Evansville-Vanderburgh County Drug Task Force began receiving information this past February that Kejuane Deonte Broomfield, 39, of Evansville, was dealing fentanyl from his residence.
Detectives ultimately established enough probable cause to arrest Broomfield for dealing in a narcotic drug (fentanyl) and obtained a warrant for his residence in the 900 block of Birchwood Court.
On Monday, detectives attempted to conduct a traffic stop of Broomfield in the area of Woodbridge Drive and Branchwood Drive.
Rather than stopping, Broomfield attempted to flee in his vehicle and, in the process, struck several detectives’ vehicles. Detectives were able to pin Broomfield’s vehicle, preventing his escape.
Despite being given several orders to exit the vehicle, Broomfield refused. Detectives then had to break the driver’s side window and utilized pepperball rounds to eventually gain compliance. Broomfield ultimately surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.
During the search of Broomfield’s apartment, detectives located four pistols, two of which were reported stolen, along with ammunition. Broomfield has several previous felony convictions which classify him as a serious violent felon, making it illegal for him to possess a firearm.
Detectives also located three digital scales, approximately 24 grams of suspected fentanyl, 14 grams of suspected cocaine, and approximately 170 grams of suspected marijuana.
Sheriff Noah Robinson stated, “Mr. Broomfield had every opportunity to comply and chose not to. Our detectives showed restraint and professionalism throughout, and ultimately a convicted violent felon with fentanyl, cocaine, and stolen firearms is now sitting in the Vanderburgh County Jail. That’s a good day for this community.”
Broomfield was charged with several narcotics and weapons related offenses and lodged in the Vanderburgh County Jail.
Those charges included: Dealing Cocaine or Narcotic Drug as a Level 2 Felony, Resisting Law Enforcement as a Level 6 Felony, Resisting Law Enforcement as a Class A Misdemeanor, Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon as a Level 5 Felony, Theft of a Firearm as a Level 5 Felony (2 Counts), Maintaining a Common Nuisance as a Level 6 Felony, Possession of Marijuana as a Class A Misdemeanor, Possession of Paraphernalia as a Class B Misdemeanor.
