Katie Kirkwood has been named the new principal of Bend Gate Elementary School.
“We are pleased to announce Mrs. Kirkwood as the new principal at Bend Gate,” said Henderson County Schools Superintendent Dr. Bob Lawson. “As a former Bend Gate student, she is fully invested in seeing the school succeed. She embodies the core values of Henderson County Schools and I know under her leadership as a vice-principal and now as principal, she will have a positive and lasting impact on the students, teachers, and staff.”
Kirkwood is currently the interim principal at Bend Gate Elementary and was previously the assistant principal. Her classroom experience includes being a teacher at Spottsville Elementary School for 12 years.
Kirkwood graduated from Henderson County High School and received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Master’s in Educational Administration from Murray State University. Additionally, she has a Master’s in Reading and Writing Specialist and a Rank I Supervisor of Instruction from the University of the Cumberlands.
“I am completely honored to be the new principal at Bend Gate, my alma mater,” said Kirkwood. “It has been such a privilege to work with the students, staff, and families over the last two years, and I couldn’t be more excited to continue on this journey together as we pursue excellence!”
Kirkwood grew up in Henderson County and has strong connections to the community. She and her husband Josh Kirkwood have four children and live in Henderson.
